Who/What: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) exterminates 38 allegedly diseased Waterfowl, Exhibition & Gamebirds, including 21 year old "Old Tom" Lifelong Resident Turkey. According to Sources the Turkey was not given a blood test to confirm existence of "disease". Including ducks, chickens, pheasants, turkeys, geese.
When: Wednesday, March 12, 2003, 3 pm to 5:30 pm, pst
Why: Birds were allegedly diagnosed with Newcastle's Disease, although confirmation of any actual blood tests are unclear and unconfirmed.
Where: Wm. S. Hart Park, Newhall, Ca, Dept. of Parks and Recreation, Los Angeles County

 How: Lethal Injection

Possible Story Conflict/Angle: Although Newcastle's has been shown to be highly contagious and responsible for great losses in California commercial poulty business, according to Sources there has been some question that EPA officials failed to perform thorough testing to ensure birds actually had Newcastles Disease at Hart Park, Original Home to Wm. S. Hart, Silent Film Cowboy, who founded the Humane Society. Of special interest, 21-year-old "Old Tom", lifelong treasured resident of Hart Park was allegedly put down without a conclusive blood test of any kind, based merely on a limited visual appraisal of symptoms (of which old age may also easily mimic Newcastle's). Other unconfirmed information has been relayed that EPA employees allegedly exterminated an elderly citizens bird, in the greater community, again without a blood test, and in full view lacking sensitivity to the elderly owner of the bird. According to reports the EPA crew has been working full time.
